Using What You Already Have
I love Thanksgiving and everything that goes with it; the grocery shopping, the preparation, the baking, and the table setting! I typically go all out on decorations for our annual multi-generational gathering but this year we’re scaling it way back due to COVID. But I still want our party of four to feel as festive as a crowd of fifteen and I’m not letting COVID get in the way of my stretchy pants and a fantastic celebration! For our smaller feast, I’m planning a simple table setting for Thanksgiving using pieces we already have.
I shopped my house for items to decorate the table and found the perfect collection. I’ll create a centerpiece using gourd-shaped candles, a metal pumpkin, a mini faux pine tree, and a small hurricane vase and candle. But I could just as easily grab some colorful leaves and twigs from the yard and toss them in an old pitcher.
We have only one set of plates, in classic white, and we use them for every occasion from weeknight meals to Christmas dinner. I find that classic white plates makes entertaining easier because they go with everything. To elevate them, I’ll put them on silver chargers and layer them with cloth napkins and an appetizer plate. I’ll mix two different styles of wine glasses with our water glasses to finish out the place setting. I can’t wait!
If you don’t have the right items around your house, there’s still time to create your own simple table setting for Thanksgiving. Here are few items to choose from:
Striped Table Runner / Charger Plate / Dinner Plate / Appetizer Plate / Old-Fashioned Glassware / Cloth Napkins / Hurricane Candle Holder / Set of Pinecone Candles / Burlap Wrapped Mini Pine Tree / Hammered Flatware
After dinner we’ll eat pie, watch football, enjoy a few glasses of wine and of course, second dinner … and maybe one more glass of wine!
