7 Simple Freezer Staples I Trust and Always Have on Hand

We all have those long days when we need to punt on dinner despite the agreed upon meal we’ve planned out with the family! I’ve been there a time or two! Have you opened the bread drawer only to find crackers?!? It happens to all of us. While take-out sounds good, it often ends costing more than a trip to the grocery store. Consider these 7 simple freezer staples I trust and always have on hand when dinner dilemmas strike.

1. Veggie or Bean Burgers

There are dozens of styles of veggie and bean burgers on the market. They’re low in fat, high in protein and completely guilt-free. We prefer:

2. Frozen Fish Fillets

Frozen fish is a must since we almost always forget to buy fresh fish on the nights we need it. It’s so versatile and we often make fish tacos, Cod Picatta, Baked Fish N’ Chips, Bang Bang style shrimp, or simple salmon burgers from Costco! Our go-tos are:

3. Pork Tenderloin

While this one admittedly must be defrosted in the refrigerator overnight, it’s an important staple because it makes a variety of different meals from Banh Mi sandwiches to Instant Pot Carnitas (which is easily converted into BBQ pulled pork sandwiches) to grilled pork tenderloin medallions! (Pro tip: If you cut the tenderloins in half before freezing, you can drop them right into the Instant Pot without thawing!)

4. Frozen Fruit

We’re a smoothie drinking family. While each person’s smoothie is slightly different, they all contain 1 cup Kefir (regular or dairy-free), half an orange, half an apple, 1/4 banana, 1/4 cup old fashioned oats, 1 scoop Amazing Grass Green Superfood, 2 Tbsp flax seed and 1 cup frozen mixed berries. It’s super refreshing as well as filling. My kids (adult children) add protein powder, Vital Collagen, frozen mangos, turmeric, ginger, even orange juice. Therefore we buy in bulk at Costco:

5. Pizza

We love Pizza, A Lot! But everyone has a favorite! Ordering pizza is a treat, but can be pricey. Our favorites are:

6. Petite Peas

I know this seems super specific, but we simply prefer petite peas to regular peas. We like the small size and sweet flavor. They’re perfect in Veggie Fried Rice and Pasta Primavera or as a side dish when we’re out of fresh broccoli or Brussels Sprouts. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods nearly always have petite peas! I swear they’re de-lish!

7. Bread

In a family of 5 it wouldn’t surprise you to hear that we have varying bread preferences for toast and sandwiches. So, we buy 2 different brands of bread. We also like Naan for mini homemade pizzas or with Indian and Greek food. Here’s what we dig:
